What inspired you to pursue a life in health and fitness?

I’ve learned that the main concepts learned through health and fitness can be applied in many different areas of life. Fitness has led me to discover confidence, empowerment and leadership. I want to help all women experience these feelings and take charge of their life as well.

What three things would you recommend people change about their lifestyle to maximize their health?

  • Learn to talk positively to yourself daily
  • Give up processed foods
  • Go outside your comfort zone when it comes to different types of exercise and activity until you find your niche

What are some of the most common mistakes beginners can make when starting their fitness journey?

Going 0 to 100 overnight. It’s about progress, not perfection! Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your health and dream body won’t be either. Make small changes daily and watch them add up over time instead of looking for a quick fix.

What in one fitness-related myth you would like to bust?

“As long as it fits in your macros*, its good!” WRONG. If you are aiming to be healthy now and later in life, food with lots of additives and man-made products are only harming you. Macro tracking is great and will get you to your goal, but it is SO important to still be eating clean, whole foods.

*“macro” is short for macronutrient. Macronutrients are the three categories of nutrients you eat the most and provide you with most of your energy: protein, carbohydrates and fats. So when you’re counting your macros, you’re counting the grams of proteins, carbs or fat that you’re consuming.

What keeps you motivated in your fitness journey?

Feeling confident in any outfit I wear and my clients. Seeing them get excited, stay dedicated, and see results always reminds me why I do what I do!

Do you have any advice for someone who feels unsure how to begin improving their overall health and wellness?

Yes, take it one day and one habit at a time. Pick your top 3 bad health habits and start with one at a time. Set a plan of how you’re going to replace it with a healthy habit and don’t move on to the next until it feels natural.

Do you see a shift happening in the public perception of fitness?

For sure! It’s so great to see people prioritizing their health, even if it is often driven by the desire to look good. The gym is like a new trend, and that’s a way better trend than partying or watching Netflix.

What lifestyles do you think a healthy snack subscription like SmartBox would benefit the most?

I always tell my clients - “good nutrition is all about being PREPARED.” Snacks are definitely one area that people tend to slack in when it comes to preparing. If you have healthy snacks sent straight to your door, you can’t go wrong!

What is your favorite healthy snack?

Hmmm probably trail mix! So nutrient dense and you can make it sweet without adding too much sugar.

Which of the food nutrient contents listed on a nutrition facts label are most important to look at when choosing a healthy snack option?

SUGAR! Sugar is responsible for many of our health struggles and diseases because we are unaware of how much is in daily food items. Sugar is a simple carb (the bad kind of carb) and provides no nutritional value to us.
